Cars Guide is your one stop shop for all things Cars.

The best classified sites from around the world are below plus some comments on the other smaller players.

There's some great articles also - generally well worth a read.

There are few GREAT car classified sites around.  I've selected one per country and put some comments on some of the less great ones as well:

A review of some of the Australian sites:

Australia's #1

We really like the fact that carsales.com.au has maybe twice as many cars as anyone else, is really easy to use and is safer for buyers and sellers.
It's also not too "try hard" - like some of the other websites in Australia and is designed to make buying and selling cars not only simple, but effective.
carsales.com is listed on the ASX and there is no majority or controlling shareholder.

Gumtree is a WHOLLY owned subsidiary of eBay.  Disappointing most people think it's a privately owned, Australian business.
As far as freemium sites go (sites that make you think they're free but really do the hard-sell on "upgrades"), they're well ahead of most of the competition.  If you're selling or buying a VERY cheap car, they're probably the best of the free-to-list sites.

Drive.com.au is owned by Fairfax.
They're the publisher of daily newspapers such as The Age and The Sydney Morning Herald.  Very editorially focussed.  Not much in the way of actual classifieds or sell your car services.

A review of some of the U.K. sites:
AutoTrader (U.K.)
U.K.'s #1

AutoTrader in the U.K. grew out of their print publication that's been operating for decades.  While the print side of the business is pretty much dead - they've really nailed the online offering.

Motors.co.uk is part of the Cox group of companies out of the U.S.  They own Mannheim auctions along with autotrader.com and plenty of other things.  While not a patch on AutoTrader.co.uk, they're a reasonable number 2.

A review of some of the Australian sites:
Autotrader (U.S.)
America's #1

AutoTrader in the U.S. (no relation to AutoTrader U.K.) has done some great moves to become the clear #1.  They own - amongst other things - Kelly Blue Book, better known as KBB.COM.  Other than the fact they have about 3000 pricing options for dealers, they're the best of an ok bunch!
